Blueberry Promise

This is our second year with these blueberry bushes. They are promising to be a good bit more fruitful this season than they were last.

Looking forward to sticky, purple-stained little fingers this Summer!

Now I just need to convince this little rascal to restrict his digging to his sandbox, and leave the flower pots alone...

  1. Do you have your blueberry bushes in pots? I'd like to learn how to do berries in pots...but I killed everything I had in a pot last year, so I'm a little hesitant.

  2. They are in pots, Heidi! I bought self-watering pots at Walmart (they're plastic, with a little spot to put water under the plant. They're not really more expensive than the regular pots there.) They're great, because you can't under water or over water them very easily, which is the most frequent killer of potted plants! Any excess water will spill out, and if you forget to water one day there will be a good bit stored underneath for it to draw from. I used the miracle grow potting soil for vegetables and fruits (I can't remember if it's organic specifically, but it's in a brownish bag (?) and specifically for growing foods), which I find extremely helpful. It helps moderate the water saturation in the soil and sends nutrients to the plant throughout the long growing season. Then I always recommend singing to your plants and stroking them gently while you garden, because they really like to know they're loved... ;)
    Happy gardening!
